The University of Alberta, Department of Family Medicine in partnership with family caregivers and health and community care professionals has developed an online learning resource for healthcare providers to support family caregivers in their caregiving role, enable family caregivers in decision-making about available services and care management. In recognizing the important contributions of family caregivers within the healthcare system there is a need to identify, engage, and support family caregivers through a person-centered approach. Respecting and involving family caregivers in the planning and delivery of support services for the care receiver while also recognizing and addressing the family caregiver’s own needs, preferences, and wellbeing is the key to building meaningful and positive care outcomes for everyone involved in the care journey.
The Foundational Level Education (Level 1) introduce the learner to the importance of recognizing, communicating, and partnering with family caregivers in a meaningful way to foster family caregiver resilience and support system navigation and an inclusive culture of care. There are six modules within this bundle – no prerequisites are required and it will take the learner approximately 1.5 – 2 hours to complete all six, with the opportunity to receive a certificate of completion once all modules within the bundle have been successfully completed.
